Double Bill Night

Following the inspiring encounter of the recent Butoh Open Stage, Arts Centre Berkenrijs presents Butoh Nights: an evening dedicated to the depth, precision and transformative power of contemporary Butoh.

This special edition brings together one duo and one solo performance by renowned Japanese Butoh master Motoya Kondo and the evening’s curators and organizers Elles Grzybek and Michael Lazic. Each artist approaches dance from a distinct personal language, creating an evening of contrasting atmospheres, embodied poetry and intense stage presence.

Rooted in the Japanese avant-garde tradition while continuously evolving through contemporary practice, Butoh explores the body as a site of memory, transformation and imagination. Through slowness, tension, silence and unexpected physical expression, these performances invite the audience into a space beyond narrative and convention.
